Seasons:
· Summer(November – April): Ticks are common, so bring insect repellent and apply each morning.
· Winter (May – October): Mornings and evenings are cold, but midday is warm. Please note South African houses are not equipped with central heating systems for winter, so bring sufficient warm clothing.
Currency:
South African Rand is used. Check www.xe.com for exchange rates.
Electricity:
Voltage is 220v, with round three-pin plugs. Bring international adapters.
Immigration:
Ensure your passport has two empty pages and is valid for 6 months.
When filling out immigration forms upon arrival in South Africa and you will be participating in a volunteering program, indicate that you are a tourist on holiday. Avoid mentioning volunteering, as this could be mistaken for work, requiring a special visa.
Emergency Medical Attention:
Doctors and hospitals require immediate payment. Bring a credit card for emergencies, then claim back from your insurance company later.
Refunds:
No refunds are provided for unused time spent at any of the lodges or volunteering programs. If you decide to leave early for whatever reason, your unused time will not be rufunded.
